With the advent of wearable smart devices such as the Apple Watch, many psychologists believe that the behavioral condition known as social media addiction is bound to increase. It may not be classified as a disease, but it has many characteristics that put the condition on a level similar to that of internet addiction disorder, which has been identified and treated since the mid-1990s. Since the business model of social networks is highly dependent upon returning visits, long sessions, and interactions, it makes sense for Facebook, for example, to release the best client application for smartwatches; after all, these are devices that deliver social media updates right to our wrists. In this new holiday commercial, the 2-minute ad opens with two children playing around a home at night, illuminated by hundreds of seasonal decorations. After only a few seconds, the lights dim and flicker for a moment or two before the camera changes, giving the viewer a higher view of the neighborhood and a glimpse of a strange, blue glow emanating from the forest right behind what's implied to be the children's home. The camera transitions to an internal shot, with a woman, presumed to be the kids' mom, and a man, pausing as the two somehow understand that these brief moments of dim light mean something. The camera goes back to the kids, opening up a wooden fence to investigate the backyard with a flashlight. As the boy scans the area, his light falls on a snowman with something odd being used for the limb. After a beat, the...

CBS Charging Record Amount for Super Bowl Ads Advertisers are anticipating that Super Bowl LIII will be the most watched television program of the year, and they are willing to spend millions to get their message out on it. A 30-second commercial on CBS, which will be broadcasting the game this year between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams, will cost advertisers a record $5.25 million. This works out to about $175,000 per second. The cost of a commercial, though, is up only a little from last year when a 30-second spot cost $5.2 million. But it is up a whopping $1 million from what it cost just 5 years ago, and it is nearly double what is cost back in 2008 when a 30-second spot went for $2.69 million.
